Synopsis

Spoiler Alert! The following blurb contains spoilers for Cash Plays, book three of Seven of Spades.

Shattered by their devastating breakup, Detective Levi Abrams and PI Dominic Russo find themselves at war right when they need each other most. While Dominic is trapped in a vicious cycle of addiction, Levi despairs of ever catching the Seven of Spades. The ruthless vigilante’s body count continues to climb, and it’s all Levi can do to keep up with the carnage.

When Levi’s and Dominic’s paths keep crossing in the investigation of a kidnapping ring with a taste for mutilation, it feels like history repeating itself. Thrown together by fate once again, they reluctantly join forces in their hunt for the mastermind behind the abductions.

But the Seven of Spades hates sharing the spotlight, and they have an ace in the hole: a new batch of victims with a special connection to Levi. Their murders send shockwaves through Las Vegas and change the rules of the game forever.

The Seven of Spades has upped the ante. If Levi and Dominic don’t play their cards right, they’ll end up losing everything.

Review

This book hurt way more than the last one. There were a shitload of moments when i wanted to yell at them to get their head out of their arses.

There were times I wanted to throw this book. Especially when Levi did something I don't usually read at all. But it turned out that I can forgive him for that.

Oh Stanton! I must say he wasn't a favourite in the first book, but this book, i felt for him. He might have grown on me or something. He wasn't right for Levi but in this book I could see much he truly loved him. Loved him enough that his happiness (even if it isn't him) is all that matters.

The Seven of Spades' crimes are escalating. The author still keeps me on my toes. I'm looking forward to read the last book and to finally meet them! Or have I already done that?

He’s hot for teacher

NHL star Tristan Holt may be at the top of his game, but he’s already thinking one play ahead. Hitting the books in the off-season means he’ll have a business degree to fall back on when it’s time to hang up his hockey skates.

But his straightforward plan is complicated by his undeniable attraction to his sexy sociology professor, Sebastian Cruz.

Impressed by Tristan’s brain as well as his brawn, Sebastian can’t help lusting after the gorgeous jock. With tenure on the line, Sebastian won’t break the rules by becoming involved with one of his students—at least, not until the end of term. Once final grades are posted, though, their naughty mutual fantasies can become reality.

Tristan’s not sure he’s up for being the poster boy for openly gay hockey players, but Sebastian’s never been the type of man to keep his sexuality—or his relationships—in the closet. For Tristan, being with Sebastian might mean risking more than just his heart.

One-click with confidence. This title is part of the Carina Press Romance Promise: all the romance you’re looking for with an HEA/HFN. It’s a promise!

Check out this excerpt of Off the Ice:

For a time the music distracted him. Tristan swayed in place, caught up in the energy of the now-substantial crowd and enjoying the rare opportunity to hear his favorite songs played live. That wasn’t always easy for a classic rock fan whose favorite groups no longer performed, and who, generally speaking, wasn’t all that into cover bands.
But soon the novelty wore off. Tristan noticed the time and the distinct lack of one Sebastian Cruz. Like the flame of a candle, his excitement flickered and abruptly sputtered out, leaving nothing but wispy smoke in its wake.
Concerts were a lot more fun when you had someone else to share the experience with. Couples and groups of friends filled the venue. Tristan was one of the few who watched alone, conspicuous in the way he stood apart from the others.
He frowned, deposited his empty bottle on the tray of a passing server, and made his way to the bar for another beer. During the regular season he normally limited himself to two, preferring to get his carbs from food instead of alcohol, but fuck it. Training camp didn’t start for nearly another two months. After being stood up, he was due another drink or three.
Tristan snorted. Why was he kidding himself? Professor Cruz never had any intention of meeting him. He’d probably regaled his highbrow academic friends with the story of his student’s clumsy attempt to ask him out. No doubt they had a good laugh about it while drinking wine and eating canapΓ©s or whatever the hell else snobby professors did in their spare time. Tristan already knew what Sebastian Cruz thought of athletes.
He’d just flagged down a bartender and placed his order when he sensed a presence at his side. Tristan turned and found himself face-to-face with the man himself. Professor Cruz was dressed casually in dark jeans, boots, and a button-down shirt. He’d left the top two buttons undone, and Tristan’s gaze automatically went to the prominent collarbones covered in smooth golden-brown skin. All the moisture fled his mouth at the thought of putting his lips to the divot at the base of Professor Cruz’s throat. Tristan wanted to bite and lick there, inhale until the scent of sweat and man made him drunk with lust.
“Mr. Holt.”
Tristan swallowed hard. “Professor,” he rasped. Sebastian, Tristan really wanted to call him. The name appealed to him as much as its owner. Tristan wished he had the right to use it whenever he pleased.
The bartender delivered Tristan’s beer and grabbed the money Tristan had placed on the bar top. He jerked his head at Professor Cruz. “What can I get you?”
“Single malt, neat. Glenlivet, preferably. If not, the best you have.”
Of course he would drink Scotch and order it neat, the sexy bastard. Tristan pictured him as the leading man in some classic black-and-white film—crystal tumbler in one hand, a thick cigar between his lips, a plume of smoke curling around his sharp-jawed face. The image sent blood rushing straight to Tristan’s cock. Shit. There went all his bitter thoughts from a few minutes before, carried away by the rumbling bass of Professor Cruz’s voice and the sight of his dark-brown eyes and darker, finger-tousled hair.
Tristan almost sighed. He was weak—he knew it—but how could he be strong with Professor Cruz standing here looking like that? Tristan wanted to drop to his knees. Only awareness of his surroundings kept him upright.
After starting a tab, Professor Cruz inclined his head, silently encouraging Tristan to follow. They moved away from the bar to a small gap along the back wall.
“How’s the band?” Professor Cruz asked, his eyes fixed on the stage.
Tristan watched, wetting his mouth as Professor Cruz took a slow sip of the amber liquid in his glass. “They’re good, I think,” Tristan replied. “I stopped paying attention a little while ago.”
Professor Cruz glanced at him. “Why?”
Tristan smiled wryly. “I was waiting for you.”

Review

I'm not quite sure that I haven't read this book before 'cause Sebastian Cruz seems really familiar. But that's all that i can remember so maybe I'm really reading it for the first time.

Loved the dual POV. I loved both the characters. Seb and Tris are a really hot couple and the chemistry is sizzling. Both of them are complex characters and the conflicts are very relatable.

Though I'm not really fond of spanking and humiliation (very mild), it didn't stop me from reading the rest of the book. They don't start anything until after he stops being Sebastian's student but the Teacher/student dynamic was still pretty hot!

The secondary characters are amazing too. I loved Ryu and I'm looking forward to reading his book.I love reading about hockey players and since I'm a huge fan of Scoring Chances by Avon Gale, this book was a no brainer for me.

Looking forward to the rest of the series.

Synopsis

𝐌𝐒π₯π₯𝐞𝐫:
When Talon left to play pro ball six years ago, the hole in my chest confused me. Now he wants everything to be like it was in college, but we can’t have threesomes and be reckless like we once were. The media storm would be enough to break both our careers. That’s not my biggest concern though. The torch I had for him burns brighter after so long apart, and there’s nothing I can do about it. Marcus Talon is straight. I need to stay away from him. π“πšπ₯𝐨𝐧: Years ago, Miller and I made a pact that we’d win a Super Bowl together. When I’m offered a position on his team in Chicago, I don’t hesitate. HOLY.FUCKING.SHIIITT!!!
This is my favourite Eden Finley book. It's everything I ever wanted and more. #teamSharcus all the way!

Talon and Miller are explosive together. Like when they are together they create fireworks. I'm so glad she wrote this book as they were only meant to be supporting characters in Trick Play.Like how Talon says, they belong together.

Talon is amazing and so very oblivious. He's an all or nothing kinda guy. Jumps in with both feet first. While Miller is a little more level headed(very little). They are opposites that balance each other.

This book also deals with being LGBT+ in the sports. The pressure is huge. We get to meet characters from the previous books too. I will always want more of Damon and Maddox and Matt and Noah. And Lennon ofcourse. I loved every single word of this book. Couldn't put it down and can you imagine how hard it is to read in class and keep a straight face?(no pun intended)

That epilogue was swoon worthy. It's sooo Talon. Well he is Talon-ted!
Highly recommended!!

Book review:- Trick Roller by Cordelia Kingsbridge

Trick Roller by Cordelia Kingsbridge

Series: Seven of Spades #2
Release date: 29 January, 2018
Page Count: 295 pages
Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Synopsis

It’s the height of summer in Las Vegas. Everyone believes the serial killer Seven of Spades is dead—except Levi Abrams and Dominic Russo—and it’s back to business as usual. For Levi, that means investigating a suspicious overdose at the Mirage that looks like the work of a high-class call girl, while Dominic pursues a tough internship with a local private investigator. The one bright spot for both of them is their blossoming relationship.

But things aren’t so simple. Soon Levi is sucked into a dangerous web of secrets and lies, even as his obsession with the Seven of Spades intensifies. Dominic knows that Levi isn’t crazy. He knows the Seven of Spades is still out there, and he’ll do anything to prove it. But Dominic has his own demons to battle, and he may be fighting a losing war.

One thing is certain: the Seven of Spades holds all the cards. It won’t be long before they show their hand.

Review

This is the 2nd book in seven of Spades series and it cannot be read as a standalone. I love this book so fucking much. I loved seeing their relationship develop. All those small, sweet moments and the  mind blowing sex!

I love the mystery/suspense! I'm a huge fan of that and it's perfectly  balanced with the romance. Levi and Dominic have amazing chemistry together. They are perfect for each other. I especially love the way Dominic treats Levi. Unlike Stanton, Levi's ex, he doesn't think Levi needs protection or needs to stop being a cop because it's dangerous. He knows that Levi can take care of himself.

We get to see more of the side characters from Kill Game. Carlos and Jasmine are absolutely adorable together. I also loved seeing more of Martine, Levi's partner. It ends on an intense cliffhanger plot-wise and I can't wait to read the next book.

Plenty of excitement and magic fill this action-packed sequel to A Ferry of Bones & Gold.
-- Ginn Hale, Spectrum Award-winning author

Synopsis

You can’t bargain with death if you’ve already sold your soul.

Special Agent Patrick Collins has been reassigned by the Supernatural Operations Agency to New York City. Learning to navigate his new relationship with Jonothon de Vere, the werewolf he’s now soulbound to, is nothing compared to dealing with territorial disputes between the vampires and werecreatures who call the five boroughs home. But the delicate treaties that have kept the preternatural world in check are fraying at the edges, and the fallout is spilling into the mundane world.

Manhattan’s club scene is overrun with the vampire drug known as shine and the subways have become a dumping ground for bodies. When the dead are revealed as missing werecreatures, Patrick and Jono find themselves entangled in pack politics twisted by vampire machinations.

Learning to trust each other comes with problems for both of them, and the gods with a stake in Patrick’s soul debt aren’t finished with him yet. Bound by promises they can’t break, Patrick and Jono must find a way to survive a threat that takes no prisoners and is stalking them relentlessly through the city streets.

Old and new betrayals are coming home to roost but the truth—buried in blood—is more poisonous than the lies being spun. Trying to outrun death is a nightmare—one Patrick may never wake up from.

All Souls Near & Nigh is a 104k word m/m urban fantasy with a gay romantic subplot and a HFN ending. It is a direct sequel to A Ferry of Bones & Gold, and reading the first book in the series would be helpful in enjoying this one. Please see the disclaimer in the Look Inside for content some readers may find triggering.

Author Hailey Turner says All Souls Nigh & Near is: An exciting sequel that builds on the series plot and will keep readers wanting more!

Q&A with Hailey Turner

What comes first, the plot or characters?
This is like the chicken or the egg question. For me, it’s a mixture of both. I feel my characters play off the plot, but I need the outline of the book and series to really create a character and their motives. Characters and plot are pretty intertwined when I create a book, so I can’t say one comes first above the other.

Describe a typical writing day.
I usually write in the morning and evenings around work on weekdays, and for a block of hours on the weekend around errands and time spent with friends and family. On weekdays, I get up early in the morning (I’m talking 5:00am here) to get some writing in before work. I try to make time to write every day otherwise it would be difficult to finish a book if I didn’t.

How do you come up with the titles to your books?
I like to have themes with my titles and they tend to have the same sort of word structure for the entire series. For my Metahuman Files series, the titles spoke to the missions in each book. For Soulbound, every title has a hint of the mythology I’ve incorporated into that particular book. It varies with every series but I honestly can’t start a book without a title.

Excerpt

He made a fist, snuffing out the mageglobe, and the silence ward died away. Sound rushed back with a pop that made him tug at an earlobe.
One look at Jono’s face as they waited for the elevator told Patrick he was pissed.
“You don’t—” Patrick began, but was instantly cut off.
“Don’t bloody tell me I don’t have to go,” Jono growled. “I’m going. We’re a pack, and like fuck am I letting you face that psychopath alone.”
“I’ve done it before.”
The elevator doors pinged open and Jono crowded Patrick into the space. He hit the button for the third floor before settling one hand over Patrick’s waist, fingers biting into skin. The other gripped his chin, forcing his head up with a firm push. Patrick stared into Jono’s face, barely able to see his wolf-bright eyes through the dark lenses of the sunglasses he wore.
“Stop it,” Jono told him in a low voice. “We’re in this together, whatever it is this time around. We’re a pack. You don’t get to sod off and pretend otherwise. I won’t let you.”
Patrick swallowed in the face of Jono’s frustrated anger, not knowing what to say to that. He didn’t have an SOA-assigned partner, and learning to keep Jono in the loop about things was still a work-in-progress.
“Sorry,” Patrick finally said.
Jono let out a heavy sigh before brushing his lips against Patrick’s in a soft, close-mouthed kiss. “If that fucking bastard touches you, I’ll murder him.”
“He’s already dead.”
“Then I’ll murder him twice.”
Patrick wondered what it said about him that Jono promising murder to defend his honor made him want to drop to his knees and suck Jono’s cock as a thank you.

Review

I'm absolutely in love with this book. I didn't think it was possible to love a book more than the first but oh I'm such a fool. This book is epic. I love Patrick and Jono so damn much. We get a lot of mystery and action, more about their soulbond and general awesomeness. And Wade is my all time favourite character , he is a cinnamon roll, a teenager who hoards everything and nothing, who can eat up his weight in groceries and still be hungry. We meet most of the side characters from the previous books, new shifters and new gods too.(Must check out Aztec mythology now)
I don't want to say anymore and end up spoiling someone. All I have to say is hands down one of the best book I've ever read.

Book review:- Kill Game by Cordelia Kingsbridge

Kill Game by Cordelia Kingsbridge

Series: Seven of Spades #1
Page Count: 304 pages
Release date: October 23, 2017
Rating:🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Synopsis

Homicide detective Levi Abrams is barely holding his life together. He’s reeling from the fallout of a fatal shooting, and his relationship with his boyfriend is crumbling. The last thing he’s prepared for is a serial killer stalking the streets of Las Vegas. Or how he keeps getting thrown into the path of annoyingly charming bounty hunter Dominic Russo.

Dominic likes his life free of complications. That means no tangling with cops—especially prickly, uptight detectives. But when he stumbles across one of the Seven of Spades’s horrifying crime scenes, he can’t let go, despite Levi’s warnings to stay away.

The Seven of Spades is ruthless and always two moves ahead. Worst of all, they’ve taken a dangerously personal interest in Levi and Dominic. Forced to trust each other, the two men race to discover the killer’s identity, revealing hidden truths along the way and sparking a bond neither man expected. But that may not be enough to protect them.

This killer likes to play games, and the deck is not stacked in Levi and Dominic’s favor.

Review

Wow. Just wow!!
I couldn't put this book down. It's been on my TBR pile for a while but I just got around to it now. I'm glad i read it now after the release of 5th book because I think I would have gone crazy otherwise.

Read only if you're prepared to be addicted!!! Levi and Dominic have sizzling hot chemistry and the sex is off the charts! The suspense kept me on edge the whole time. This is one of my favourite books of all time and I don't want to spoil it for anyone. I can already feel that this just the beginning of an amazing series. Levi and Dominic are really great together. They are taking it quite slow and I'm looking forward to their evolving relationship.

Can't wait to read the next book! Recommended to everyone who loves mystery and romance!!

Book review:- Marking His Mask by Gianni Holmes

Marking His Mask by Gianni Holmes

Series: A Marksman's Tale #2
Release date: February 20, 2019
Page Count: 257 pages
Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Synopsis

As police officers, we sometimes get carried away and feel like we are mini-gods, placed on earth to protect others, but every so often we are reminded of our own mortality.

Sergeant Julius King is going through his fourth divorce, though he’ll likely point out it’s technically the third since his first marriage was annulled. Sworn off men until he figures out why he’s so unlucky in love, King gets a distraction he could do without...the brutal murder of a fellow cop with no leads except a hyper-realistic mask caught on body cam.

Two years ago Emmett’s husband was murdered during a prank that went downhill fast. Seen as a liability, Emmett was shot and left for dead. Now struggling to cope with the effects of his traumatic brain injury, Emmett has a fear of the men in blue. Thankfully, he has the therapeutic practice of making masks as a hobby which soothes him.

The second he sees Emmett, King knows he’s screwed, but he tries to back off when it becomes all too clear Emmett’s brain functions differently. As Emmett’s mask-making puts him at the top of the suspect list, King finds himself searching for a killer as much as trying to prove Emmett’s innocence.

You’re the one I’m fighting for. I’m going to get you out of this alive.

When another cop is murdered and Emmett’s life threatened, can King keep his distance from their only potential witness? Or will he be willing to compromise his job to protect the man he’s come to love?

Review

This is a mystery, hurt/ comfort story. Julius and Emmett are a really cute couple.

The prologue broke my fucking heart. I cried like a baby. I actually read the blurb after the prologue so it was quite unexpected. (Yay!!Go me!!)

I must say that I sort of knew the perp halfway through the book. It's a well written mystery that I really enjoyed. There were times when I felt some of the phrases/reactions were a bit out of place. Its probably just me though. This is my first Gianni Holmes book(her other books have been on my TBR pile for a long time) and I'm really glad I finally around to reading it.

Julius and Emmett are perfect together. They been through so much but they never gave up. I loved them so much.

The secondary characters were all amazing. We meet Mark and Mac from the first book and also Jarrod who's one of the MCs in the third book. I'm looking forward to reading his story.
